Local people are continuing to campaign for Rutland County Council to support the planning application that would see a Aldi store being built on wasteland, that has been allocated for employment land but left derelict for years and it is not too late to have you say and make your voice heard.
Simply by going on to the Rutland County Council website and filling in a simple on line form you can show your support for the plan. By clicking on this link, RCC Planning Online, you will be taken to the page shown above. On the page you just have to fill in the boxes with you name and address and some other details. The important bit is at the bottom where a drop down menu lets you add your support for the application and the box below that were you need to state your reasons for supporting the development.
According to the article that appeared today on the Rutland Times website, there was when they looked some "460 letters in support of Aldi and three objections" for the planned store. This represents some 99.4% of the comments being in favour of the store being built on the site near to lands End and the new petrol station. However it does just stop there as there is another way you can show your support.
On the change.org site Hayley Rose has set up a online petition to support the planning application, which you can get to by clicking on this link, Petition to Approve Aldi Supermarket plans in Oakham. All you have to do this time is time is enter your details in the box on the right of the screen and then click the sign box and you are almost done as you might get a confirmation email which you just have to quickly look at and follow a link to make sure your a human being.
Please help out if you want a Aldi in Oakham, tell your friends on Twitter and Facebook and get those that are local to the town to do the same. Get them to go on the Rutland Council Website and sign the petition and make as much noise as they can on social media. Make sure people know that they could lose a valuable asset that will make Oakham a more affordable place to shop. Hayley is trying to get a thousand people to sign the petition and I sure we get those and a few more.
With two by-elections for seats in the Westminster Parliament last night it was a chance see how well UK Independence Party would do against both major parties. Both the Conservatives and Labour were both trying to keep seats against the rise of the nationalist UK Independence Party. The Conservatives lost the seat they once they held and the Labour majority was decimated. Along the way UKIP won there first MP in the Westminster parliament.
Both got the shock of their lives, but listening to the rhetoric of both major party they haven't learnt a thing and the rise of the nationalist will continue. So safe do they feel that they think they have all the answers but they are not connecting with the people and they haven't been listening for years, and people are fed up with the lot of them.
You just had to listen to the Conservative that the BBC found for the by-election special to realise why they lost the seat in Clacton on sea who avoided answering questions by just going on about the economy and how well they have done since they have been in power. He wasn't willing to have a debate with the presenter, he just wanted to force his message across and avoid the issues that saw Douglas Carswell win the first ever seat in the Westminster Parliament. He was a pathetic waste of space and I don't know why the BBC gave him air time.
Last night not only did UK Independence Party in Clacton on sea, an area you would expect them to do well, but they almost won a second seat Heywood and Middleton, in the North West of England. It was so close that they even had to have a recount to check if Labour had won the seat or not. UK Independence Party political appeal crosses party lines and as we get closer to the election we will see more and more polices announced that have equally a strong pull on the electorate.
The reason why the UK Independence Party are doing so well is that can be bothered to listen and act on what they are hearing rather than dismissing it as the major parties do in the UK. They then base their polices around public opinion to attach the maximum number votes across all sections of society. They set out to give the people what they want in exchange for power and they are doing it so well that they will be a threat in every seat come the next election.
The Conservative party keep going on about a vote for the UK Independence Party being a vote for labour when in fact it is what it says, just a vote for the UK Independence Party. They hope this will stop the Conservative voters that want to get out of Europe to vote for them in fear of voting a Labour Government in at the next election, but it will all back fired on them if they are not careful. The negative campaigning and the the campaigning of fear is something that almost backfired during the Scottish referendum and it wasn't until the YES campaign, and in particular Gordon Brown, started talking about the positives that fortunes of the YES campaign began to turn round. They have to remember that the majority people in the UK didn't vote for them in the first place.
By refusing to talking talk about the issues that the UK Independence Party are using to attract voters then they deserve what they get in the general election in 2015. It just arrogance to think that people will vote for them and stick your head in the sand like Ed Miliband when he refused to answer questions form the press. Of course a lot of right wing Conservative Members of Parliament that sympathise with UK Independence Party will be blaming Europe for last nights election results, but this shift in voting is more than about the problems with Politics in the UK, they don't see that they are the problem and their attitude to the greater population in the UK.
Last night every main party in the UK politics had a wake up call. All of them got a political kicking from the UK Independence Party, with the collapse of the Conservative and LibDem vote and reduction of the majority in a safe Labour seat. The question is will they press the snooze button hope that the problem goes away. Listening to the World at One on Radio 4, that what they seem to be doing and they plan to continue doing.
The next round in this fight will be in Rochester and Strood where the reckless Conservative MP, Mark Reckless, will be standing against his old party after defecting to the UK Independence Party during the party conference season. If everything goes the way it seems to be going at the moment soon their will be two members of parliament in Westminster for the UK Independence Party, which the Conservative David Cameron said was full of "fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists". We it is wake up time and I hope they hear the alarm going off for all our sakes.
Since Tuesday and the when the story broke that Rutland County Council Planning Officer, is recommending refusal of a new Aldi store in Oakham social media locally is starting to feature the views of those that support the purposed plan.
Twitter and Facebook has started to come alive with some of the views of the local residents that want the store to appear in Oakham. For examples this comment by Lynne Dalzell on Twitter that got several retweets:

While others have called it a disgrace and have question the decision to recommend refusing planning permission to Aldi. I'm sure we can expect more as the days to the vote in the council draws nearer. Most people, it seems, want to have the store open in Oakham as shown by this comment on Facebook by Natalie Freckingham when the plans were announced by Aldi:
Oakham is desperate for an Aldi! Like some of the others have written here, I too will be doing my shopping in Oakham for the first time in years if this happens!! What possible reason could there be to not have one? After all, many of us would have spare money to put back into other local businesses that we can't normally afford to frequent!
The support for the store is not surprising given the domination of the other two supermarkets in the town, which many people feel are too expensive and don't cater for their needs. When Aldi held a public consultation at the Victoria Hall in Oakham back in Novemeber last year it was by all accounts a very busy affair compared to other such events in the town. It seems it a very popular move by Aldi to open store in Oakham.
Personally I think Rutland County Council would be stupid to reject planning permission for the store at Tuesdays meeting. It could really backfire on them come the elections when they are all up for the chop if they are not careful, although that wouldn't be a bad thing given their track record. Remember how they planned to waste public money to indemnify the Chief Executive to take some their own council members to court and all the other things that have happened in the last four years since we last had local elections.

Richard Burr was the hottest favourite in history of "The Great British Bake Off" so it came as a surprise to hear the announcement tonight when Nancy Birtwhistle, a retired GP Practice manager, was crowned the winner of the this years show, after her home baked final show stopper.
Unfortunately for Richard it all went wrong in the final after winning the title of Master Baker week after week. Not sure if it was nerve but he was well off his game and although he tried to get it back on the second day his presentation rather than his baking let him down.
After the first day the situation was that either Luis Troyano and Nancy Birtwhistle were in the running for the title of winner of the Great British Bake Off 2014 and in the end it was Nancy's Moulin Rouge cake that stole the show on the final day and saw her passing the winning line.
Mary Berry said of this years series: "You never know how the bakers will be affected as we go through filming week by week, but Nancy remained constant throughout. I think it was her quiet determination that drove her through, and the fact that she never really lost her cool. It was a close run when it came to judging the final, but Nancy is deservedly our winner and I must admit that I have been inspired by her baking. The bakers have been so keen, so creative and the results have been mind blowing. It's been a real joy to judge this year."
Paul Hollywood said after the final: "Nancy has been confident, creative and unafraid as a baker and that showed from the very start. In one of my judgings I called her close to perfection, so that says it for me. This series has been one of the best for me, as we have had great bakers who have built on their baking expertise each week. They have shown both a depth of knowledge and a sense of humour, you really couldn't have asked for a better bunch.
'They have really pushed the boundaries of technique this year."
I really enjoyed watch the show this year it has been great television and some of the creation have been incredable. My favourite was Martha Collison who did so well to come fifth at the tender age of 17, which is 14 years younger than any other contestants when she first appeared on the show. I think she did amazingly well and she going to be am incredible baker when she reaches Nancy's age if she carries on baking.
Well there has been a massive change in the weather since the start of the week with temperatures plummeting and the rain, that we hadn't seen in ages falling hard on the ground and bouncing off the surfaces of the road. Something we are going to have to get use to and we move faster and faster into winter and the short days and long nights.
But despite that there have been some amazing skies to go with the overall grey of the days that have been dogging us for the last three days. Above are just a few of the sights I have seen as I when I have been going to work.
The top picture is Monday's sunrise and although the day was grey and wet there was just enough clear sky on the horizon that the sun managed to find its way through lighting up the grey sky and giving the most lovely shades of yellows and red below. The next two pictures were taken today within minutes of each other but in different directions. The middle picture shows a passing heavy shower and a rainbow that formed as the sun was setting, while the bottom picture shows the sun setting in the opposite direction that caused the rainbow and the orange sky as the rain fell.
Even as we approach winter there is plenty to see if you take time to look, something that isn't easy in our busy world, but it is worth it.
