Asterix

Something a bit lighter after earlier post to lighten the mood. One of the comics I still enjoy reading even today is the Asterix series of French comics written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo which was first published in 1959. In all there are in excess over 35 volumes of the stories that can pick up to make you chuckle, like "Asterix in Britain" shown in the picture below.

Somehow I missed out on reading them as a kid, but I did start reading them as an adult when I had a two week stay in hospital once many years ago. When i read them I was just taken b y the how idea and the characters in the stories. It kept me amused for hours and I got through about 15 stories when nothing else really took my interest. Even now I can reread those stories and chuckle, especially "Asterix in Britain" and the they way it pokes fun of the English.

If you have a kid aged about 12 years and up with an inquiring mind who love comic book format they are great. I remember at school we had a history teacher who was so taken by the books he use to teach history in the same style as the books complete with cartoons. It was amazing and all the stuff he taught me about the Vikings stuck, so it worked for me.
