Big Brother Summer 2012

As always I'm really looking forward to this years Big Brother, which starts tonight, especially after watching Celebrity Big Brother over the winter. I hope that after the relative success of the last two shows that they don't go to far in picking a crazy mix of housemates. It must be tempting to take it too far pick a bunch of crazy's.

Hopefully the channel will get good ratings for the show and they won't tail off as the show goes on. There is a risk that now the novelty of the show being on a new channel has now worn off and that could affect how many people watch it. I wouldn't like to see it coming to an end because of falling ratings, it is doing too well at the moment and it seems to have had a breath of fresh air injected into it.

Personally I'm looking forward to the show as always. I'm sure it won't disappoint. Let's hope all the talk in the forums of a strange house mate mix are just that. I just hope that they have made the right choices for the sake of the show.

Jubilee in Pictures

It doesn't seem right not to have a post that includes images of the celebrations for the Jubilee. It has been a big part of the bank holiday weekend and the reason most people had an extra day off work. So here in pictures is some reminders of the weekend.

It has been an amazing weekend and it is so nice to see the country smiling for a change. So much has been going on locally and nationally. It was a shame that I didn't have my family all around me to enjoy all the things in the village that were took place over the holidays, all the same it was fun. Let hope she manages another 15 years and we can have another jubilee in 2027.

Moonlit Night

Anyone that knows me will know I have a bog thing about the moon. There is something hauntingly beautiful about the light it casts on a moonlit night. It something that has been part of me as long as I can remember. When I was small I would just stare at it for ages in wonder and still I love looking at it. It is like it has some magic power and it holds a special meaning I can't explain.

Tonights full moon was especially interesting to look at and photograph. It was the mixture of the light cloud and the way the moonlight interacted making some wonderful patterns in the sky. With the cloud being light it also produced some colourful moments as can be seen in the picture. It was a lovely sight tonight. 

Hopefully we will get some more lovely moonlit nights over the summer for us all to enjoy. I would love to get out and about and get some pictures of the countryside in the moons magical light. 

The Apprentice 2012 - The Final

After twelve weeks of television and thousands of tweets by people watching the show tonight it all came to an end in the Final. Which in the end lived up to the promise of the rest of the show this year and was finished off a special you are hired show that at times was incredibly funny.

The show this year has been as good as any of the past and it has made good television and quiet a contrast to the main programming on BBC One. The format might be getting a bit predictable but there is a certain comfort in that. I know it is one of the few shows on the channel I still watch and that has to say something about the show on a channel that has gone down market in recent years.

This years winner was Ricky Martin a 27 year old recruitment manager who compared himself to the Norse God Thor in his personal statement before saying that he could teach and old dog, Sir Alan Sugar, new tricks. Thankfully his business plan was better than his personal statement and he even managed to impress the unimpermissible Claude Littner with his business plan. He won with a rather boring and safe recruitment agency business but given the economic climate Sir Alan Sugar went for the safe option, and who came blame him.

The only question is did Sir Alan Sugar make the right choice in the end, and I think he did. Ricky Martin business skills were good and who came blame him for playing it safe. Time well tell what return he gets on his investment, but I;m sure he will make a profit. 

So that is it until next year when hopefully we will have another bunch of hopefuls trying to Sir Alans Sugars money out of his pocket and into a new business. 

Anybody Out There

There was an interesting article on the BBC website about our search for other intelligent life forms that have so far been unsuccessful, but it only has to be a matter of time until one of these searches finds a trace of another inhabited world.

The problem is finding it. New techniques mean that we can now target our searches better than ever before. Selecting and targeting solar systems which have known planets that are within a habitual zone around a star. This should narrow our search and result in a higher probability of success.

Although increased that probability is still however small. The problem is finding another inhabited planet that is at the right stage of development. For example, the earth is around 4.5 billion years old and in that time we have been sending out radio signals for the last 100 years., so unless you hit the right moment in a planets life you would never know anyone was there. The whole thing is a numbers game and with billions of plants around other stars and with millions of them having the possibility of hosting life, it is all about getting the right one.

One thing is for sure, we are going to turn up more negatives than positives on this search, and for that reason it could  take hundreds of years to find the first one. It doesn't mean that they are not out there, more that we haven't found them yet.
