Dr Who Returns

Time to return to hiding behind the sofa for the kids as the scary monster fight it out with the good old Doctor as tonight see the return of the BBC classic Dr Who, which is now has it's 12th Doctor since the show started back 23rd November 1963, the day after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. In that time between then and now there have been not only 12 Doctors but 26 series of the show and over 800 episodes. And television has gone from being 405 line black and white to full colour 1080i HDTV.

For those that have never seen the programme, if there are in fact anyone who hasn't, the programme it a Sci-fi series based on the adventures of a Gallifreyan Time Lord only known as the Doctor and his companions as the travelling through time and space. The original series were serial in nature with one story being played out over several episodes how ever when the format was reinvented in 2005 after a gap of 9 years from the screens the format was changed and now each story is told over a single longer episode.

The Doctor himself is an eccentric, highly-intelligent scientist from a distant planet. He travels through time and space in the TARDIS which larger on the inside than on the outside, and although it is designed to change its appearance to suit its surroundings, but unfortunately it is broken, and always appears as a blue British police box from the 1950/60's. The Doctor appears to have a soft spot for the planet Earth, and often visits there, either to save it from various alien threats or to whisk a choice few inhabitants away to the distant parts of the galaxy to help him fight evil there in the form Cybermen, Slitheen, Daleks, The master and many more.

The programme has been a family favourite here ever since the girls started watch the show when it return back in 2005 with the wonderful Christopher Eccleston playing the ninth Doctor. For me he really reinvented the show abd brought it back to life, it was just a shame he made just the one series, which for me will always be one of the best. For Emily, David Tennant, became a bit of a heart throb when he took over as the tenth Doctor between 2005 and 2010. I know she was sad that he left the programme and she still loves watching the series he made and anything else with him in for that matter.

The new series starts tonight on BBC1 in the UK at 7.50pm and I'm sure it will draw a massive audience as it always has done in the past since it returned to our screens in 2005.
