Oakham Signal Box
Have you ever been stuck at the level crossing in Oakham and wondered what is inside the signal box, well hopefully these pictures will give you an idea.
One thing not everyone knows is that the signal box in Oakham was used by the model company Airfix as the basis of one of there kits which must have sold in the thousands to model railway enthusiasts around the world. Interestingly it is not the oldest signal box on the line, that honour goes to the signal box at Langham Junction.
You can find out more about the line that runs through Oakham on the Syston and Peterborough Railway web page, which gives an insight into the hay day of the railways.
