Blast from the Past

In recent weeks on long journeys Emily and Catherine have started listening to the a series of radio broadcasts from the the hay day of radio. They are adaptations of the Paul Temple stories by Francis Durbridge broadcast between 1938 and 1968. With the coming of digital  radio the shows were rebroadcast on BBC 7, which later was renamed Radio 4 Extra. Over recent years these stories have become popular once again to the point that some of the original lost recordings were remade using the vintage equipment.

Over recent weeks Emily and Catherine have become addicted to the stories of Paul Temple, a mystery writer turned private eye, and his wife Steve as they solve a number of high profile criminal cases for Clients and Scotland Yard. Paul Temple is that typical English gentleman of his age and the closest he gets to swearing is when he say's "by Timothy", even when being shot at, drown or forced off the road by another car. Each programme comes with a cliffhanging ending that just makes you want to hear more until you get to the end of a series. They are classics of Radio of the time and you can see why he became one of the most popular private detectives of all time. The girls love him and especially his wife, Steve, and I'm just happy they have discovered the world of Radio Drama.
