Bob Marley

Today is the thirtieth anniversary of the death of iconic reggae star and trailblazer Bob Marley who died prematurely on the 11th May 1981 at the age of 36. He is renowned for the spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience, making him an iconic figure in the music business.

In tribute to his life BBC Radio 2 have a special programme on called "Knowing Bob Marley" as part of their Bob Marley session. In the programme five of his closest friends and colleagues share personal experiences of the man they knew, while revealing the singers roots which later shaped his music and view of life.

Although I'm not a Radio 2 listener, the status of the singer/songwriter makes this is a must listen too. If you like me are serious about music it is on BBC Radio 2 at ten o'clock and if you missed it you can listen to it again on BBC iplayer shortly after the show is broadcast.
