A Place That Time Forgot
Sometimes when you are traveling around your interest gets taken by a passing sign and your divert from your journey to see where it takes you. That is what happened today as we were traveling up the country roads through Ashwell up towards Melton.
Sometimes the sign take you nowhere but some time they take you to a real gem of a find. It was the later that the signs lead to today. A place that time forgot. A church that looked like it had been left back in the 1890's. A real film makers dream. It was almost totally unspoiled by the ravages of the modern age, it even still had wood burners as heating. It was a lovely place and in such a lovely village.
The church in question is the Church of St Michael & All Angles in Edmondthorpe in Leicestershire, just the other side of the county boarder with Rutland. It is 13th century church which was last used over twelve years ago. It is currently maintained by the Church Conservation Trust and is in a wonderful condition having undergone essential repairs. It is well worth looking at if you pass it by if nothing else but to see the 17th and 18th monuments the church contains.
