Quite Saturday

Well the weather was all but kind with the temperature reaching about fourteen maximum and the wind making it feel a lot colder than that. We hardly saw the sun at all for any extended period. It really wasn't I wanted for a Saturday in mid May. Especially one on which I had all the girls together, but that what I got today. It doesn't give you much to do which means there isn't much to write about.

Unusually I was first up at about eight and actually had to go in and wake Lucy up. I'm not sure if she had been awake or not before that but she was sound asleep when I went into her and gently woke her. She woke with a smile. It was rather lovely. As we were about to go downstairs we were joined by Catherine and they both headed off to the family room to watch television while I had a coffee and got them some breakfast and juice.

Half an hour after breakfast Catherine headed out with Charlie for the afternoon and they both went to town together to look around the shops. This left Lucy playing with Emily for the morning. They both had a grand time playing cars at one point. Lucy was pretending to drive Emily around and she was telling her which way the road went. As they went around the corners they both leaned into the bends and in doing so had a erupted into giggles. As the morning wore on Emily went upstairs into Lucy's bedroom to use the computer there. Lucy naturally followed her and they both played there for a while before Lucy came downstairs to watch a DVD for a bit.

Just after lunchtime Catherine came home form town and started playing with Lucy. It seems she had fallen out with Charlie but that will resolve itself in time as these things always do. Although the weather wasn't good it wasn't raining and at one point they both went to the park together to have some fun before returning home because Lucy needed the toilet. After that the rest of the afternoon was spent playing around the house and in the garden together. At one point they were having fun playing with Lucy's Peppa Pig footballs and it was great that I got to join in and have some fun with them both.

After dinner we popped out for a bit with Lucy in the car. There was some spare petrol for a change and so we could have a little drive around before heading to the supermarket. As we drove around we were looking for birds and we taught Lucy what some of the common birds you see as you travel around, although she seemed to like the bunnies more, we did teach a few of the birds names. However I can understand her love of the rabbits, they do look so cute, especially when you see families of them either in the fields or at the side of the roads. I just love that we share where we live with so many different types of wildlife.

When we got home there was a little time to play before it was time Lucy's bedtime routine. Tonight she had stories from Catherine and Emily before I read her last story. Then after her kisses and cuddles she drifted off to sleep while the older girls got on doing there things until their bedtime came around and they joined her in their land of dreams. And so ended their day, not a good one but a quiet one.

Well it wasn't the day I expected it to be. Everyone seemed alright but I can't help feeling sometimes that I need to do more. I really want the children to have a nice time and although I know this is not always possible, I feel I should be doing more to make things better for them. Today was one of those days. I know it is wrong that I should beat myself up for the off days, but all the same you do. Maybe that is because of this feeling that I have failed them. I want to give them a place they are happy in, but it is hard when you feel at conflict with you aims and what is happening around you. Especially when you have no way of influencing or getting your opinion across. I know my aims, but I just don't know how to achieve them accept trying to understand the people around me and by just being me. All I want is the best for them. I love them.
