Oakham is really starting to look more like Middlesbrough in the early nineteen eighties with shop after shop closing it doors for the last time. Last weekend I wrote about the closing of Toots sweets and now they have been joined by another three shops that have closed down this week.
This week has seen the closure of "V Clothing", "Antique Shop" and "Blockbusters". Slowly the number of empty shops is showing what a bad way the local economy is currently in a very visual way. This trend is only set to get worse as we approach the RAF base closure. Meanwhile the county council blindly carry on with their mad cap building planes to move people into an area which has few and few jobs and insufficient school places. If you ask me they are as mad as the people at the banks that caused this mess, if not madder.
